COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WILL SELECT TWO LIBRARY TRUSTEES TUESDAY, 6/16; THE LIBRARY BOARD WILL SELECT A CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR WEDNESDAY, 6/17

LIBRARY TRUSTEE SECTION: This meeting is happening Tuesday, 6/16 at 10:00 at county commission chambers at 1001 E. Ninth Street, Building A, Reno, NV 89512. The county commission will fill two library board seats. Over the past few years, library board meetings have become a battle. The selection of these two trustees could either run the train off the tracks or return the board to functionality.

The list of applicants is here. There are 25 candidates. We are recommending that library supporters ask the commissioners to select individuals who:

1. have knowledge of the challenges of Washoe County Libraries and have been actively supporting the libraries over the past few years,

2. have experience serving on a board, and/or

3. are educators.

For the June 16 meeting, you can show up in person to make public comment. Trustee selection is agenda item 18, but you can make your comments at the beginning during general comment if you need to leave. Information about making public comments can be found here.

You can also make online public comment ahead of time using SpeakUp (select agenda item 18). Online comments for this meeting will be due Monday 6/15 by 4:00.

If this is an issue you have been following closely and feel strongly about, you can always email or call your commissioner prior to the public meeting. Commissioner contact information is here.

LIBRARY BOARD CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR ELECTION: The library board meeting is happening Wednesday, 6/17 at 5:30 at the Incline Village Library, 845 Alder Avenue, Incline Village, NV 89451. Control of the Washoe County library board chair position has been hotly contested over the past few years and at the 2024 Incline Village meeting, things got out of hand. It is important that library supporters show up to this meeting to ensure that the library board has a chair who supports the library.

Library board meetings are no longer conducted over Zoom, so public comments need to be either in person or emailed to
sschubach@washoecounty.gov by 4:00 Tuesday
. Comments must include subject line “For Public Comment.”

In Solidarity,
